Lapeer redshirt senior Matt Stencel wrestles his Northern Illinois opponent on Jan. 17, 2021 in the McGuirk Arena.

After a victory over NIU on Friday, Central Michigan wasn't stopping on its weekend of wrestling.

The Chippewas earned two more victories Sunday, defeating SIUE 34-4 and South Dakota State 21-17 Sunday.

Senior Brock Bergelin for the Chippewas and senior Austin Macias took the mat for the first match of the day wrestling at 125 pounds. Bergelin would be the one to get his team on the board first taking down Macias and making the score 4-0 Chippewas.

The Chippewas continued to dominate and keep SIUE off the board.

Graduate student Dresden Simon and Aaron Bolo took care of business, both getting victories in sudden death.

Wrestling in at 285 pounds, graduate student Matt Stencel did what he does best and pinned senior Colton McKiernan.

The Chippewas took on South Dakota State for the final meet of the day.

Bergelin started off the match once again and took no mercy, pinning his opponent Tanner Jordan to get the Chippewas on the board with a score of 6-0.

South Dakota State would come back and get on the board with a victory from Gabriel Tagg over CMU sophomore Ja'Kerrion Merritt in the 133 pound weight class, cutting the Chippewa lead to 6-3.

The Chippewas got back on the board with a victory from Simon and continued to add onto their lead with wins from Corbyn Munson, Johnny Lovett, and an overtime win from Bret Fedwa.

South Dakota State would tag on more points with a pin from Tanner Cook over Tracy Hubbard  to bring the score to 18-8. They continued to add on with a win from Cade King over Ben Cushman to bring the score to 18-11. It got down to the nitty gritty when South Dakota State junior Tanner Sloan pinned senior Aaron Bolo, cutting CMU's advantage to just a point, 18-17.

The last match of the day left it all up to Stencel, facing off against senior AJ Nevills. As usual, Stencel took care of business and gave the Chippewas a 21-17 win.

The Chippewas next match is at home against Ohio at 2.p.m. Jan. 30th at McGuirk arena.
