Bolingbrook Illinois senior Jahari Smith sets up for a play against Kent State on Wednesday Feb. 9 in McGuirk Arena.

Although it stuck with the Mid-American Conference leader through two-quarters, Central Michigan (4-22, 2-15) women’s basketball couldn’t sustain a barrage of three-pointers as Toledo (22-4, 16-1) secured a 76-52 win on Wednesday.

The Chippewas lost Tiana Timpe in the third quarter after starting the game without Molly Davis or Kalle Martinez.

The Rockets’ Sophia Wiard led all scorers with 14 points while adding eight assists and five rebounds.

Senior Jahari Smith led CMU with 13 points and four rebounds. Freshman Lisa Tesson added nine points, six rebounds and five assists.

Toledo won the battle inside, recording 32 points in the paint compared to 26 for CMU.

The Chippewas head to Kalamazoo on Saturday to face Western Michigan. The Broncos lead the season series 1-0.
