CMU wrestling wins ninth straight

With a 26-9 win over Edinboro, the Chippewas wrestling squad won their ninth straight match. 

The Chippewas are alone in first place, standing 10-2 overall and 5-0 in the Mid American Conference. 

Wrestling in at 125 pounds, CMU senior Brock Bergelin beat Chris Merlo 10-2 to give the Chippewas a 4-0 lead. 

Edinboro would eventually get on the board with a win from Gabe Willochell over CMU's Dresden Simon. Willochell's win brings the score to a close 7-6.

Chippewa junior Corbyn Munson shut down any chance of a back-to-back win and taking the lead with a 5-2 win over Ryan Burgos in the 149-pound weight class. Munson's win would extend the CMU lead to 10-6. 

Vince Perez, Johnny Lovett, Tracy Hubbard, Bret Fedwa, and Ben Cushman would add onto the Chippewas score with wins. 

Edinboro would pull off another win in the 197 pound weight class with a win from Cody Mulligan over CMU's Cade Dallwitz. Mulligan's win would cut the deficit to 22-9.  

Graduate student Matt Stencel and Max Millin would close out the match in the 285 pound weight class. Stencel would once again take care of business and bring the final score to 26-9. 

The Chippewas travel to Kent State on February 6 to take the mat at 2 p.m.
