Mallory Hernandez and Aly Gurtiza earn MAC West Player of the Week honors

After a successful road trip, two Central Michigan volleyball players earned Mid-American Conference Player of the Week honors. 

Senior outside hitter Mallory Hernandez was named MAC West Division Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore libero Aly Gurtiza was named MAC West Division Defensive Player of the Week following the team's 2-1 performance at the Memphis Tiger Brawl. 

Hernandez led the team on the offensive end with 55 kills, while recording a .398 hitting percentage and adding seven blocks. This also marked her debut as a Chippewa after transferring from Georgia. 

Meanwhile, Gurtiza led the team on the defensive end with 67 digs through three matches, averaging 22.3 digs per match. Gurtiza is coming off a successful freshman season at CMU with 534 digs averaging 5.34 digs per set which saw her honored as part of the MAC All-Freshman team. 

CMU volleyball is currently 2-1 on the season and will look to continue their success when they travel to St. Louis, Missouri, to compete in the St. Louis tournament starting Friday, Sept. 2 at 11 a.m.
