Get the narrator out of your head, join CM Life podcasts

Mike Gonzalez, Podcast editor

Don’t you hate it when someone reads your text wrong? One of the first rules I have with friends and family is that if we’re having a heated argument, do it on a call – not text.

I say this because you never know how the other person wants you to interpret the text. You might be in a bad mood and receive a text that says, “Hey, take it easy" only to interpret it as an attack.

If you’re reading this column, it’s probably with some voice – maybe your own – that’s playing in your head.

I have a problem with that. You aren’t hearing my voice.

Now, I’m not trying to be narcissistic. What I’m saying is you don’t know the tone of this sentence or the unique inflections in my voice.

What if there was a way to get the same information from Central Michigan Life's stories and get that narrator out of your head?

Well, that’s exactly what CM Life podcasts are here to do. We give students, including our CM Life staff, the chance to have their voice heard ... literally.

There are nearly a dozen series covering various topics including movies, games, sports, news and much more. And, best of all, you don’t need to worry about missing the interpretation of someone’s message.

Our talented hosts are dedicated to making sure their and others' voices are engaging you in these important conversations. I mean, how many times have you written passionately about something, but by the time you read it out loud, it sounded as stale as my comedy?

When I first came to CM Life, I was just some student who loved video games and wanted to share my opinion with anyone who would listen. Now, I’m one of eight editors that ensures everyone has the same opportunities that I did two years ago.

Even if you know nothing about podcasts, we all have to start somewhere. We have so much to offer, but take a listen to our wonderful hosts or come on in and tell us about an idea for a podcast. We can always use more interest and ideas.

This semester, every podcast in our lineup has a host except for our pop-culture series – Raving Geeks. If you want to dip your toes into talking about the latest and greatest of nerdy news, now's your chance!

While we are in the midst of recruiting a host for it, our podcasts have ample opportunity for students to participate short- or long-term.

To further discuss Raving Geeks or share your ideas, contact me at or visit our office in Moore Hall 436.
