CMU student died while driving home

An 18-year-old Central Michigan University student died following a two-car collision Friday. According to a Michigan State Police press release, it happened around 11:30 a.m. on US-127 at Harrison Road in Gratiot County.

Preliminary investigations showed the student was heading southbound on the highway when their vehicle crossed a grass median and hit a northbound Dodge Caravan. Both drivers sustained serious injuries in the collision, the press release said.

A family member announced in a GoFundMe campaign the student died over the weekend. It was also revealed that the student had been rear-ended into the median causing the collision with the other car.

Central Michigan Life is withholding the student’s name out of respect for their surviving friends and family. If anyone would like to share stories or memories of the student, please email editor@cm-life.com.
