The Black student-led organization, Coalition of Black Empowerment (COBE), will be hosting a Black Jeopardy night Feb. 9 in the Center for Student Inclusion and Diversity, Bovee University Center 108.

From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., as part of the Multicultural Academic Student Services (MASS) Black History Month events, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about Black history, arts, culture and their influences in the form of a jeopardy game.

“We were wanting to create an event that was educational, especially because our event is MAC (Multicultural Advancement & Cofer) scholar approved,” Secretary of COBE Genesia Thompson said. “We wanted it to be educational, and we also wanted it to be really fun and centered around Black empowerment.

“We’re hoping that people can get a reminder of our successful history that we have as Black people.”

According to its mission statement, COBE’s is meant to empower Black students and create safe spaces to learn. Additionally, it is a community to voice concerns and frustrations as underrepresented individuals on a predominately white campus.

“We really just wanted it to be a space where Black students are able to convene and be themselves and feel as though they have other Black students to really bond with and relate to being that we're at a PWI (Predominantly White Institution),” Thompson said. “We just wanted it to be a positive space for Black students.”

People who plan to attend this event must RSVP.
