'Seeing campus through the eyes of their student': CMU hosts family and friends weekend

Friends, family and alumni of CMU enjoy the tailgate, Saturday, Sep. 9, outside Kelly Shorts stadium.
On Sept. 30, parents, siblings and close friends can go on a tour around campus and engage in campus activities.
The list of events and activities can be found on Central Michigan University’s website.
“The goal of Family and Friends Weekend is to provide an opportunity for parents and supporters to engage in family friendly activities with their CMU student,” Betty Wagner, a parent and student servicer said. “It is critical to student success to have family members support them throughout their CMU journey.
“We also wish to convey that parents and supporters are a part of the CMU family and welcome them to the Mount Pleasant community.”
The excitement of this weekend revolves around the opportunity to attend the CMU versus Eastern Michigan University football game at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
“The Division I football game against EMU is a big draw to campus,” Wagner said. “Parents and supporters can witness a great game and see our student’s spirit and enthusiasm firsthand in beautiful Kelly-Shorts stadium.”
Other family friendly activities include performance by a magician, other competitions like soccer tournament, hockey and volleyball.
“(Family and Friends Weekend) gives families the opportunity to … have parents and supporters see campus through the eyes of their student,” Wagner said.
