Students and staff get food from different tables at the Holidays Around the World event on Friday, Dec. 2 in Rowe Hall.

The International Student Organization (ISO) at Central Michigan University is to host a potluck event from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17, at Island Park, to welcome new and returning students.

ISO President Joseph Marah said the event will provide cultural exchange and networking opportunities.

“The ISO is welcoming all domestic and international students to come together, share conversations, and learn from each other,” Marah said. "Our goal is to build connections and help new students learn about life at CMU."

The potluck will feature foods from around the world, including Indian, Chinese, American dishes and more. Students are encouraged to bring a dish to share their culture. The ISO board is also working with students who need assistance preparing food for larger groups, Marah said.

In addition to food, the event will have lawn games, such as cornhole and volleyball. Prizes will be given out during games and competitions.

"This event is open to all students, not just international students,” Marah said. "It's a great opportunity to meet new people and have fun before exams start."

The event is free for CMU students and $10 for non-CMU guests. Students must RSVP on Engage Central or on ISO social media.

The ISO will also provide information about their upcoming events, including educational workshops, professional development, networking events and the annual Cultural Expo on their social media and Engage Central.
