"Dangerously In Love" is an event focusing on the history and representations of Black love in our society, as well as opening conversations about Black love to the public.
The event is being hosted by Listening, engaging, and growing authentically through Conversation (L.e.g.a.C) and Multicultural Academic Student Services to host "Dangerously In Love," an event that will discuss the history and power of Black love.
The event takes place at 6 p.m. on Feb. 7 in Anspach 161. Laila Lloyd, the co-president of L.e.g.a.C, said the event was inspired by both Black History Month and Valentine's Day.
"Our organization focuses on having deep, intentional conversations," she said. "Therefore, we thought it would be interesting and effective to have an in-depth conversation surrounding Black Love, being it isn’t always intentionally discussed.
"Even further, with having an all African-American Executive Board, we have insight to bring to the topic."
Lloyd said the first half of the event would be a presentation that focuses on depictions of Black love and statistics in Black marriages and relationships. She said the second half of the event will be an in-depth conversations with attendees on different topics in relationships.
"Despite what racism, trauma and media perceptions want to depict at times, black love isn’t dangerous," Lloyd said. "But it is powerful because it can heal and inspire us as a black community."
Snacks and drink will be provided for guests. The event is open to all, and students can RSVP on the L.e.g.a.C Engage page.
