On Feb. 13, Multicultural Academic Student Services is hosting an event to highlight Black film and the roles it has played in shaping Black culture.

“Through the Lens: Reimagining the Role of Black Film Played in the Realm of Advocacy” is a Black History Month event that looks at different Black films and how they pushed activism and advocacy. The event starts at 6 p.m in the Sarah & Daniel Opperman Auditorium located within the Park Library.

The event is being hosted by Ku’Juana Quinn, who has hosted many events affiliated with the MASS office. She said the event will be an interactive presentation showing clips from different movies and discussing the roles they played in molding Black culture today.

“This event means so much to me as it not only perfectly encapsulates the theme for this year’s BHM, but it is an event I have always wanted to do,” Quinn said. “I finally developed a way to ensure that learning is possible but also fun and interactive, not just lecture oriented.”

She said this event will be her last “solo” Black History Month event before she graduates in May, so it holds emotional significance to her.

“I am just appreciative to have had the ability to make such a change on this campus with the support of so many like the MASS office,” Quinn said.
