CRIME LOG: Police handles assault, damage at CMU, gun possession in high school

The following incidents were among those handled by the Central Michigan University Police and Mount Pleasant Police Department in the period from April 11 to April 24.

April 11

At 2:05 p.m. CMUPD responded to Herrig Hall about an assault. One individual had entered someone’s dorm room and brandished a butterknife. The case was submitted to a prosecutor for review.

April 16

At 10:30 a.m. CMUPD responded to a report of vandalism in the Event Center. An individual had written on CMU property with a black sharpie. He was identified, and the case was submitted to the prosecutor for review.

April 20

CMUPD stopped a 19-year-old male on Washington Street when he failed to stop at a stop sign. He was arrested for operating while intoxicated, and taken to jail at 9:06 p.m.

April 22

At 6:43 p.m., an 18-year-old female reported damage to her vehicle in Lot 45. Her windshield was cracked. CMUPD has no leads.

April 23

There was an assault in Lot 45 after an incident of road rage. The 20-year-old female approached the 19-year old male, who was in his car, and hit him in the face. CMUPD made contact with the female, who was taken to jail for assault.

April 24

At 8:18 a.m. MPPD made contact with a 17-year-old male at Oasis High School after an administrator said he might have a gun in his possession.

The Youth Services Unit officer immediately made contact with the 17-year-old male without incident. A gun was located in the individual's backpack, and he was placed in custody.

This was an isolated incident and there is no potential risk to students or the public.

The Mount Pleasant Police Department was assisted by the Isabella County Sheriff's Office and Isabella County Central Dispatch.

The individual is cooperating with police who are currently investigating. Once completed, the results of the investigation will be sent to the prosecutor’s office.
