Student Government Association Elections Director Carson Cooley explains the application deadlines for 2026-2027 elections at the Jan. 26 meeting.

The Student Government Association (SGA) elected Peyton Reynolds as a general board member on its Student Budget Allocation Committee (SBAC).

As a member of SBAC, Reynolds will vote to approve or deny registered student organizations’ requests for funds. Prior to the meeting on Jan. 26, Reynolds served on the Governmental Affairs Committee as the RSO representative for the community council. He was the only candidate for the position.

Student Body Vice President Kathryn House announced the association still has vacant senate seats, associate justice positions and a speaker of the house position available.

Elections Director Carson Cooley shared that SGA is looking to fill the following positions for 2026-2027:

  • President
  • Vice president
  • Senators
  • Associate justices

Cooley also shared the spring elections packet and schedule.

"What I've been working up towards with my committee throughout the first semester was the writing of the elections packet and the developing of the election schedule to make sure that we have as smooth an electoral process this year as possible," Cooley said.

In addition, Student Body Treasurer Christian Dunn said SGA has given $12,415 to RSOs for conferences and projects from the SBAC’s budget.

"We have about $18,483 left in our (SGA) budget," Dunn said. "So, we're still in a really good place as SGA."

RSOs can learn more about requesting SBAC funding at SBAC 101 orientation on Feb. 4 from 5 to 6:00 p.m. on the third floor of the University Center auditorium. Dunn said anyone can attend.

On Jan. 29, SGA will be hosting an emotional support animal education and appreciation event at 6 p.m. in Anspach 152. It will include a presentation and prizes.
