Central Michigan University's lacrosse head coach Emilia Ward stepped down effective immediately. That's according to an announcement from CMU athletics on Thursday, March 5.

The assistant head coach, Katie Vahle, will serve as the interim head coach, according to Harrison LaLone, assistant director of athletic communications.

"We are moving forward with Katie as our interim head coach for our lacrosse program," Director of Athletics Amy Folan said in a statement. "We appreciate Coach Ward's service over the last four years and wish her well."

Ward couldn't be reached for comment.

The lacrosse team started the 2026 season with a 0-5 record and played against three teams ranked in the top 25. Ward had been with the program for the last four years. She had a 20-37 overall record along with winning the Mid-American Conference title in 2023.
