Central Michigan Life welcomes new director of student media
After an academic year without a director, Central Michigan Life welcomes Steve Coon as its new director of student media.
CM Life alumnus, Coon will replace former director Regan Foster. Coon was chosen by the Central Michigan University student media board, which is made up of CM Life alumni and current CM Life representatives.
“I’m excited to be able to work with all the students across CM Life, bringing my experience and background as a journalist, as an editor and as an educator,” Coon said.
Coon has worked as a full-time professor in the Department of Journalism at CMU since 2009. Before then, he worked at the Morning Sun, the Mount Pleasant local newspaper, from 1993 to 2008, where he was a sports reporter, news editor and managing editor.
“Coon has a very long history with the university and with work in the field of journalism,” Jordyn Hermani, chair of the student media board, said. “And judging by both his actions in and out of the classroom, we think he'd be a great fit for helping further the next generation of student journalists at CMU.”
Coon will begin his position as director on June 1.
