Distinguishing Latin Culture & Embracing Diverse Identities
The Distinguishing Latin Cultures & Embracing Diverse Identities Hispanic Heritage Month event was held Thursday, Oct. 12 in the Bovee UC Auditorium. The event was hosted by sophomore Vincente Vargas and Multicultural Academic Student Services. In the presentation, Vargas described what different identifying terms meant and discussed stereotypes and assumptions. At the end of the presentation, Vargas had a Q and A panel of students that included juniors Frida Gisselle Ferrusquia and Lizbeth Perez and freshmen Eduardo Memije-Ramirez and Megan Fisk. The panel shared things like their experiences with micro aggressions and stereotyping and what makes them proud of their identities. "Growing up it was kind of hard finding who I am," Fisk said. "I definitely want to keep growing and learn more about my culture."
