Get Acquainted Day

 Multicultural Academic Student Services hosts Get Acquainted Day Wednesday, Aug. 30, outside Warriner Hall. At the event, students had the opportunity to discover a variety of student organizations and watch performances put on by RSOs, sororities and fraternities.

Hundreds of students flocked to Franklin Street between Preston and Bellows from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, for the annual Welcome Weeks MainStage event. The 2023 MainStage showcases many student organizations (RSOs), club sports, local businesses, sororities, fraternities, and campus departments the day before the first day of classes. 

GALLERY: Knock and Talk

Mount Pleasant Police Department officers, local firefighters, Central Michigan University Police officers, and other university representatives canvass neighborhoods around campus in a 'Knock and Talk' Wednesday, Aug. 24. They   use the technique to connect with students in off-campus housing, offering advice and informing students of expectations of being a Mount Pleasant resident. 

The Butterflies in the Park

MyMichigan Health held its 14th annual The Butterflies in the Park event to raise money for hospice patients Sunday, Aug. 6, at the Woodland Hospice House in Mount Pleasant. Mount Pleasant was one of five locations where the event was held. With a donation of $25, guests received a butterfly to release in honor a passed loved one, and each loved one's name was read in a ceremony of remembrance.

From major metropolitan areas to quaint villages, and from shorelines to rutted pathways, Michigan during the summer offers a destination for any adventure seeker. Summer Editor Lauren Rice embarked on an ambitious, three-day, seven-stop tour of the mitten, capturing images of the state's hidden gems along the way. 

Motor City Comic Con

Popular culture fans from across the Great Lakes Region celebrated their favorite T.V. shows, movies, games, books and more during Motor City Comic Con. 'Raving Geeks' podcaster, pop culture commentator and Central Michigan Life film critic Carter Salley took a behind-the-scenes look at the convention and celebration. 

Super Kicker Rodeo at the Isabella Countly Fair

The Isabella County Fair held the Super Kicker Rodeo event on July 25. Contestants competed in various competitions from bull riding to barrel racing. The fair runs through July 29, 2023.  

Goat yoga in Mount Pleasant

About 20 yoga students and five baby goats combined July 15 for a goat yoga session at RedBloom Yoga in downtown Mount Pleasant. Studio Owner and instructor Shana Dancer hosted the event to encourage enthusiasts to try a new spin on the ancient practice. A second goat yoga session is slated for July 22 at the studio. 

2023 Marching Chips Summer Camp

Central Michigan University Marching Band hosted a week-long camp for high school drum majors and color guard members on Jack Saunders Marching Band Field, July 9-14. High school musicians from across the state spent the week on campus, learning from university faculty and staff as part of the 2023 Marching Chips Summer Camps.

Fireworks in the nation's capital

Fireworks illuminated the night skies around the nation's capital on July 4, including these images captured in nearby Arlington, Virginia, by CM Life staff member Aurora Rae. 

Brunch in the garden

Art Reach of Mid-Michigan hosted a fundraising event, Brunch in the Garden, behind Mountain Town Station in downtown Mount Pleasant on July 9, 2023. The event included a silent auction of various artworks from Art Flair. Tickets included bruch, with proceeds helping Art Reach of Mid-Michigan acquire supplies and fund staffing. 

Gallery: Anishinaabe Circle Sobriety Walk and Pow Wow

Members of the Anishinaabe Circle participated in the 28th annual Sobriety Walk and Pow Wow June 10 at Riverside Park in Grand Rapids. The event was designed to support those who chose the Red Road, or the road ot recovery, and to encourage holistic wellness through the sharing of Native American culture and traditions.

On Saturday, June 10 Mount Pleasant hosted the ninth annual Mount Pleasant Craft Beer Festival. The Festival had beer tents from different brewing companies, live music and games like cornhole, giant Jenga, and giant Connect Four.

The Barber room in Park Library at CMU is featuring their latest acquisitions over the summer. The artwork will be available to view until Aug. 10. Several pieces in this collection are from current CMU students.

GALLERY: Special Olympics Michigan State Summer Games Day 2

Gymnastics, volleyball, swimming and powerlifting were all on athletes' schedules Thursday during day 2 of the 2023 Special Olympics Michigan State Summer Games on the Central Michigan University campus. The games wrap on June 2.

Talented athletes from across the state are at Central Michigan University for the 2023 Special Olympics Michigan State Summer Games. The annual celebration of sport kicked off Wednesday and runs through Friday. Opening Day festivities included ceremonies, athletic competition, the annual Rev it up Motorcycle Procession and a carnival hosted by the Kiwanis Club.

The annual Alma Highland Festival celebrates the beauty of Scotland with strongman games, Scottish pipe and drumming competitions and dancing contests, among many other attractions. Now in its 54th year, the festival took place May 26 through 28.

Tulip Time is a time of celebration and culture for the Holland community. People come to West Michigan from around the world to see and participate in the festivities. These photos from May 12 and 13 capture the final and largest parade of the week, as well as the blooming flowers in downtown Holland. 

GALLERY: Softball MAC Tourney CMU VS. Ohio

Central Michigan's softball team fell to Ohio 7-2 in game five of the Mid-American Conference softball tournament on Friday, May 12 in Oxford, Ohio. On the mound for CMU was junior Grace Lehto, redshirt senior Kaitlyn Bean and sophomore Madelyn Wallace. Junior outfielder Abbey Tolmie led the team on offense with three hits. Ohio advances to play Miami (Ohio) in the finals on Saturday, May 13 in Oxford, Ohio.
