GALLERY: Softball MAC Tourney CMU VS. Ball State

Central Michigan's softball team defeated Ball State 4-1 in game three of the Mid-American Conference softball tournament on Friday, May 12 in Oxford, Ohio. Redshirt senior pitcher Kaitlyn Bean was on the mound for CMU. Junior outfielder Abbey Tolmie and sophomore infielder/utility player Allyssa Hollo led the team with two hits each. CMU will play game four's losing team, Miami (Ohio) or Ohio, at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 12.

Central Michigan's softball team lost to Ohio 2-0 in game one of the Mid-American Conference softball tournament on Thursday, May 11 in Oxford, Ohio. On the mound for CMU was junior pitcher Grace Lehto. Junior outfielder Abbey Tolmie and senior outfielder Kelsey Alexander had the only hits of the day with one a piece. CMU will play Ball State at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 12 in Oxford, Ohio.

Central Michigan University Graduate students celebrate their commencement on Friday, May 5, in McGuirk Arena. The 2023 Graduate students included those from the College of Medicine, Graduate certificates, Doctoral, Master's, and Specialist degrees. 

GALLERY: Softball vs Bowling Green

Central Michigan's softball team swept Bowling Green 5-1 and 5-0 in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 26 at Margo Jonker Stadium. Redshirt senior pitcher Kaitlyn Bean was on the mound in the first game, and junior pitcher Grace Lehto pitched a no-hitter in the second, the first in program history since 2009. CMU extended their winning streak to 11 with the wins, bringing their overall record to 27-19 and conference record to 17-6.  

GALLERY: Lacrosse vs Eastern Michigan

Central Michigan's lacrosse team defeated Eastern Michigan 19-4 on Wednesday, April 26 at at the CMU Lacrosse Complex. Senior defender Hailie Moore also set a new program record of six turnovers in a single game. The win makes CMU 6-1 in conference play and 8-7 overall. The team is currently tied for first in the MAC with Kent State and Robert Morris. CMU will face Robert Morris on April 29 for the last game of the regular season.

GALLERY: Shepard Maple Syrup Festival

The annual Shepherd Maple Syrup Festival is held from April 27 to April 30 in Shepherd, Michigan. Events began as early as 9am each morning and went until 11pm most nights. Several activities were hosted including: a midway carnival, pony rides, sugarbush and syrup sales, and a maple syrup parade.

CMU baseball won their series vs Miami (OH) with a series score of 2-1 Friday, April 28 to Sunday, April 30. This takes their overall record to 29-14 on the season.

GALLERY: UTDC Dress Rehearsal

The Central Michigan University Theater and Dance Company hosts the UTDC Dance Concert Dress Rehearsal with special guests Masashi Action Machine, coming from Nagoya, Japan, Wednesday, April 19 in Bush Theater. The artistic director of Masashi Action Machine is Kumiko Sakamoto, and the representative, choreographer and principal dancer is Masashi Mishiro. The UTDC Dance Concert went from Thursday, April 20 to Sunday, April 23 in Bush Theater.

Central Michigan University‘s On the Rox A Cappella group performs their spring concert Saturday, April 22 at the Broadway Theatre. The second half of their concert featured their five seniors that are part of the group. 

GALLERY: Indian Night

Indian Students Association hosts Indian Night Saturday, April 22 in McGuirk Arena. The event celebrated Indian culture through dance and music performances, as well as traditional Indian cuisine.

GALLERY: Dabke

Multicultural Academic Student Services hosts Thowra Dabke to perform as part of Arab American Heritage Month Friday, April 21 outside Bovee University Center. Dabke is a traditional Middle Eastern dance performed at celebrations and weddings. The troupe performed styles traditional to Lebanon and Palestine and the audience had the chance to learn Dabke as well.

CMU’s program board hosts earth day activities, Friday, April 21, in the student involvement center. This event is one of many that the program board hosts throughout each year and can range from a variety of different activities such as movie nights, game nights, and concerts, keeping students involved.

The Central Michigan University Department of Communication hosts postdoctoral scholar at Penn State Leah Dajches to talk about The Gaylor Phenomenon Thursday, April 20 in Chamichian Hall. The Gaylor Phenomenon is a theory Taylor Swift fans have that she is part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Central Michigan University Central Review hosts a fundraiser Wednesday, April 19, in the Bovee University Center. This fundraiser is from 10am-4pm and includes plants and baked goods.

Professor of the Practice of International Affairs at Johns Hopkins University, Yascha Mounk, speaks about his book "The Great Experiment: Why Diverse Democracies Fall Apart and How They Can Endure" on Tuesday, April 18, in the Sarah and Daniel Opperman Auditorium. This event is sponsored by the Dr. Harold Abel Endowed Lecture Series in the Study of Dictatorship, Democracy, and Genocide.
