Hicks is a professor of English and Education at CMU who works with K-12 teachers on implementing media literacy curriculum into their classrooms.


Every Day is Earth Day S2 E1: Civic Engagement, Collective Action and Sustainability

In this first episode of “Every Day is Earth Day,” guest host Teresa Homsi is joined by Maddie Thomas to discuss civic engagement, a broad but imperative concept in implementing sustainable solutions. Thomas is the student coordinator for Central Civics, a program run out of the Mary Ellen Brandell Volunteer Center that works to develop civic skills and promote active citizenship. “Every Day is Earth Day” is a special mini-series that celebrates the spirit of Earth Day with a focus on action through civic engagement, media literacy and opportunities at CMU. This is the podcast’s second-year run with Teresa Homsi, a campus sustainability coordinator with Central Sustainability and Facilities Management.
