Mid-Michigan Industries hosting third annual walk

Mid-Michigan Industries, 2426 Parkway Drive, will sponsor its third annual Community Walk Saturday, said Judy Garland, president of Mid-Michigan Industries.
The walk will benefit people whose lack of transportation is preventing them from working, Garland said.
"MMI is a non-profit organization," she said. "We provide jobs and training to people with barriers to employment. One of the biggest barriers to employment for people with disabilities and people who are poor is transportation."
Garland said there are many reasons to participate.
"I think people should participate because it'll be a lot of fun," she said. "You get to know more about the community and MMI, and because you can contribute to someone getting a bus ticket for getting to their job for the first month. That kind of thing can change someone's life forever."
About $200 was raised per year, for the last two years, Garland said. This year she said she hopes to raise $300 to $400.
"It's been growing a little each year," she said.
Garland said there are two goals for the walk: to raise money and community awareness.
The walk will begin with registration at 8:30 p.m. at Island Park, Garland said. There is a one-mile and a two-mile trail to choose from.
Cost is $5 for pre-registration and $7 on the day of the walk, Garland said. To preregister, visit MMI.
