Strategic planning team releases update, solicits input from community

Central Michigan University's strategic planning team is planning meetings in the next two weeks to plan for the future of CMU.

A report, released Tuesday morning by Barrie Wilkes, associate vice president of financial services & reporting and controller, and Claudia Douglass, interim vice provost of academic affairs, unveiled the team's plans to open a website next week to obtain input and feedback from CMU students, faculty, staff and university stakeholders. Along with the website, the strategic planning team will also host three meetings this month to take comments from members of the university community.

The first meeting, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. April 12, will be held in the Bovee University Center terrace rooms C and D. The second meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. April 13 in Rowe Hall 229, and the third meeting will be held  at 10 a.m. on April 18 in rooms A and B of the University Center terrace.

"Over the past several months, the strategic planning team has been gathering input from various groups of faculty, students, staff, alumni, community members and business leaders who have reviewed the university’s vision statement and provided ideas for strategic priorities and initiatives," the report stated, which was released to the campus community Tuesday. "We are now launching a website and scheduling follow-up meetings to share the latest drafts of the strategic planning documents that include the feedback that has been received through numerous engagement meetings."

The report stated that along with the upcoming meetings in April, the strategic planning team will continue to solicit input from community members in the summer and fall. The team will update drafts of the planning team's mission statement as more feedback is obtained.

"These meetings will provide an opportunity for the team to share the feedback it received along with the next draft of the strategic planning documents. The information gathered through this second round of meetings will be used to further refine the vision statement, priorities and initiatives," the report stated. "We encourage everyone to participate in the strategic planning process. The planning will provide a blueprint of how the university will be positioned in the future, which allows for the alignment of resources and efforts to achieve the vision."

The team also plans to release a survey later in the month to maximize input for the university's strategic planning process.

The team will release a memo to direct campus community members to the new strategic planning website when it is activated.

Wilkes and Douglass declined comment Tuesday, but have scheduled a meeting with Central Michigan Life on Wednesday.
