CMU increasing enforcement of overnight parking
Beginning today, anyone parking in campus lots between 2 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays must have a valid parking permit for the lot they are parking in.
Overnight parking is only allowed in residence hall lots when a student has the appropriate parking permit.
According to the Manager of Parking Services Kim Speet, early morning enforcement is not a new rule.
“It’s something that we’ve had for a while now. It just hasn’t been enforced as much as it should be," she said.
Speet said before the increased enforcement, campus police officers would do early morning enforcement if they had time.
“We found that method wasn’t as productive as we needed it to be. That’s why we are having parking enforcement officers doing rounds so we can enforce it better,” she said.
Speet said the change was made mostly to cater to snow removal but also to help ensure students who live in residence halls have a place to park.
If a violator parks overnight in a lot they do not have a permit for or lacks a permit, they will be fined $25.
A ticket can be paid in person at the CMU Police Parking Services or in the Student Services Court. A ticket can also be paid by mail or placed in a yellow “Fine-O-meter” box located near many campus parking lots.
If the violator does not pay the fine, Parking Services will bill the violator’s student account.
