Head Coach John Bonamego walks the sidelines in his first game as head coach of the Central Michigan University football team. The Chippewas would lose to Oklahoma State 24-13.

As 24.5-point underdogs, the Central Michigan University football team wasn't expected to win Thursday's opener against Oklahoma State.

While the Chippewas would lose 24-13, they had the lead in the third quarter and were within striking distance through the majority of the fourth quarter.

It was a mixed bag for Head Coach John Bonamego and junior quarterback Cooper Rush in the postgame press conference. Neither were satisfied with the loss, but both had good things to say about the game.

Here are the top soundbites from the postgame press conference:

John Bonamego

“I want to say something about our crowd, especially our student section. I'm proud of all of them. I really appreciate you guys showing up-the student body was outstanding. I've been told that, in years past, students were leaving at halftime and that didn't happen today. I want to thank each and every one of them.”

“We came up short this week, but with your support, your enthusiasm and your Chippewa spirit, we’re going to be in great shape and we’re going to be a very competitive football team.”

“I thought they hung in there against a very tough opponent for four quarters. They proved that they belong on that field.”

Cooper Rush

On him tucking the ball and running multiple times throughout the game:

“It’s something you don't really think about when you're in the game. The opportunity just kind of presents itself. You're in game mode and you're not really thinking. It's just all a feel thing.”

“I just try to get eight or nine yards and then get down and try to protect your body-avoid unnecessary hits to your body.”
