With one more game left in his first season as Central Michigan University's head football coach, John Bonamego has already qualified for more than one of the monetary incentives listed in his current contract.

Bonamego will cash in on at least $31,000 in bonuses this year in addition to his $350,000 base salary and $125,000 for television, radio and other promotional appearances.

Bonamego is set to receive $6,000 for winning seven games. Because CMU was selected to compete in a bowl game this year, Bonamego will receive an additional $15,000.

The Chippewas earned a share of this season's Mid-American Conference West Division Championship, which means CMU will pay Bonamego $10,000 for the accomplishment.

If CMU defeats Minnesota in the Quick Lane Bowl at 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 28 at Ford Field in Detroit, Bonamego will earn an extra $20,000.

The current agreement between the university and Bonamego also dictates several other incentives that will not be quantified until the offseason, such as student grades and official audited home game attendance figures.

If CMU officially averaged more than 20,000 in home game attendance this year, Bonamego is set to earn another $5,000. If the football team has a collective grade point average better than 3.0, Bonamego gets to cash in on an additional $15,000.

Bonamego was hired Feb. 8 and led the Chippewas to a 7-5 regular season record as well as a co-Mid American Conference West Division Championship.
