On-campus buildings evacuated Tuesday
Two on-campus buildings were evacuated on Dec.1.
Students were instructed to exit Brooks Hall at about 12:15 p.m. when a sensor in an air duct mistriggered a fire alarm, said Steve Smith, director of public relations.
Two Central Michigan University police officers checked the building to make sure there was no actual danger.
Shortly after, crews entered the building, which consists mostly of science-related classes, and fixed the faulty sensor.
The Charles V. Park Library was also evacuated at about 2:15 p.m.
Library staff was hanging large snowflake decorations, which got in the way of smoke sensors that extend across the building. The detector mistook the winter decorations for smoke and triggered the fire alarms.
During both situations, students and faculty were let back into buildings after a few minutes.
The next fire alarm testing on campus will occur in the residence halls the first week of January. Students are not required to evacuate during alarm testing and will be notified in advance.
