National expert: ‘The sin is his’ in Heames case

A.W. Richard Sipe, a national expert on the celibacy and sexual behavior of Roman Catholic priests, shared his perspective on the ongoing lawsuit between the former on-campus priest and Central Michigan University student.

Sipe familiarized himself with the case and said it points to a core of abuse he has seen throughout his career: A person in a position of power who takes advantage of the people he serves.

Sipe is a certified mental health counselor who spent almost 20 years as a priest. He conducted a 25-year ethnographic study, which was published in 1990, on the celibacy and sexual behavior of Roman Catholic priests.

Justice remembered for determination, loyalty

Farmington Hills senior Jon Justice is remembered by friends as a teacher, comedian and one-of-a-kind person.

Justice was found dead in his Deerfield Village apartment late on Feb. 6. Though Michigan State Police has released little information about his death, Post Commander Lt. Larry Schloegl said alcohol appears to be a factor.

A GoFundMe account has been set up by friends for Justice's family, and has raised more than $1,600 thus far. The goal is to raise $8,000 to give to Justice's family.
