Lacrosse falls to 3-3 with loss to Marquette


Central Michigan’s lacrosse team lost 17-4 at Marquette Saturday, dropping its record to 3-3.

Freshman midfielder Sydney Wright led the Chippewas with two goals, scoring both in the final eight minutes of the game. The Ohio native has eight goals so far this season.

Junior attacker Julianna Shearer led her team, scoring five goals for MU in the first half.

Shearer started the game off at the draw. Within the first minute, sophomore attacker Riley Hill scored the first goal of the game and put the Golden Eagles on the board. Shearer scored shortly after at 28:45.

Sophomore Cate Soccodato and Junior Amanda Bochniak each scored for MU before midfielder Riley Huda scored the first goal for the Chippewas at 22:59. Natalie Bloniarz put in CMU’s second goal at 19:07, making the score 4-2.

CMU remained at two goals until the second half. Hayley Baas contributed two points for the Eagles in the first half. Charlotte McGuire and Amanda Bochniak each contributed a point. The score was 12-2 at the half.

Soccodato, McGuire and Baas each scored again for MU in the second half. Sophomore Allison Lane scored the second goal of the half at 25:18. Junior Lauren Hooker scored the last goal with 19 seconds remaining.

Head Coach Sara Tisdale described Marquette Lacrosse as a high level program that has been “built the right way by an excellent coach.” The Golden Eagles are now 3-5 in their 2016 season.

CMU will face Robert Morris at home on March 27. On March 30, The Chippewas will travel to Detroit to play their first Atlantic Sun opponent. The Titans are 3-4 in their 2016 season.
