Lacrosse breaks losing streak with nonconference victory in North Carolina


In its final nonconference game of the regular season, Central Michigan lacrosse ended its four-game losing streak with a 14-7 victory against Presbyterian Tuesday.

Freshman midfielder Summer Abdalla led the Chippewas with three goals and two assists. Overall, Abdalla has 15 goals on 25 shots and made seven assists in the 2016 season.

Riley Huda also contributed three goals, giving her 18 points. She has nine goals on 20 shots so far this season.

Less than three minutes into the game, CMU led 2-0. Huda scored the first goal at 27:49 assisted by Abdalla. Jocelyn Lemay scored the second goal 20 seconds later.

The Chippewas allowed two goals to Presbyterian in the first half. Abdalla scored the third goal for CMU and assisted Huda with another goal with 15 minutes left in the half.

CMU held its lead in the second half, with goals from Auguste Jepsen, Abdalla and Kaitlin Kimble in the first ten minutes. PC scored twice, making the score 7-4 with 20 minutes to play.

Lemay scored her 24th goal of the season, assisted by Anna Schoonover at 18:59. Schoonover holds the team-high of 11 assists so far this season.

Abdalla, Huda and Jepsen each scored for the Chippewas, making the score 11-4. PC came back with two goals, followed by a point each from CMU’s Natalie Bloniarz and Schoonover.

With 27 seconds left, attacker Rachel Morin scored the last goal for CMU, her second of the season. PC scored their last goal in the final seconds of the game.

The Chippewas (4-6, 0-2 A-Sun), will return home and play two conference games next weekend. They will face Jacksonville (9-4, 4-0 A-Sun) at 6 p.m. Friday and Stetson (5-8, 1-3 A-Sun) an noon on Sunday.
