Lip Sync battle hosted by Michael Issac

Michael Issac, a popular comedian featured on hit TV show "Empire," hoted a Lip Sync battle last night in the Bovee University Center Rotunda.

Four students and one CMU alumnus performed and competed in two rounds.  Song choices ranged from throwbacks like The Jackson 5 to today’s hits such as Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande.

“This was my first time at CMU and first time performing at a college in Michigan,” Issac said.  “I think (the Lip Sync Battle) went really well.  Sometimes you have people who are a little shy but they say ‘you know what? I’ll try it.’”

After all of the acts ended, Issac wrapped up the event using audience participation.  The winner was chosen by who the audience cheered the loudest for.  They judged off best lip syncing, costume and dance moves.

Junior Austin Jennings from Davisburg won the battle by performing “Tricky” by Run-D.M.C. and “Watch Your Back” by The Jackson 5.

“(Performing in a mock rock) was something I have always wanted to do,” Newaygo junior Cheyenne Hole said.  “When I see Lip Sync competitions on campus it’s normally only for people in Greek Life.  I felt like this was an opportunity for anyone to perform.”
