Baseball defeats ETSU in second game of weekend series

The Central Michigan baseball team defeated East Tennessee State 8-7 to collect its first win in the second of three games this weekend.

The Chippewas started off with a run in the first and second inning to take an early 2-0 lead. Sophomore Daniel Robinson drove in the first run with a single and sophomore David Cole drove in the second.

ETSU tied the game up in the third with a two run homerun.

CMU bounced back in the fourth with two runs to go up 4-2. Senior Robert Greenman drove in two runs with a double.

ETSU came back in the bottom of the fourth to tie it back up at four with back to back RBI singles.

ETSU scored three runs in the sixth with a three run homerun to go up 7-4. The Chippewas bounced back in the seventh to score four runs to take an 8-7 lead.

“Attitude is everything, we made big plays to get back into the game” Coach Steve Jaksa said.

The Chippewas scored all four runs in the seventh with two outs.

The ninth inning ETSU got the first two batters on base. The Chippewas picked up a huge double play and the last batter grounded out to second base to end the game.

“We made a huge play with that double play and bounced back to get the last batter out” Jaksa said.

“It was a big win and we have to come back tomorrow for the win to win the series” Jaksa said.

CMU returns to the diamond tomorrow to finish the weekend series with East Tennessee State at 2 p.m.
