Once again, it’s another week where senior pitcher Rachel Knapp finds herself earning Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week.

The St. Joseph native helped the Central Michigan softball team to a 3-1 record and improved the Chippewas' overall record to 17-8.

Knapp pitched a total of 19 innings and stuck out 23 batters in three games. She had a 1.11 earned run average on the week, which moved her overall average to 1.70 for the season. Knapp’s 133 strikeouts lead the Chippewas and is currently 10-4 on the season.

On Wednesday, Knapp got the 3-1 victory recording 10 strikeouts. Then against Bowling Green on Friday, the senior tallied another complete game win, with the final score being 7-1. Knapp struck out nine batters and allowed three hits.

On Saturday, Knapp allowed five runs with only one of those being earned in a 5-3 loss to the Falcons. Knapp totaled four strikeouts and walked three batters.

Sophomore first basemen Erika Underwood was also a nominee for the Player of the Week. The Pittsford native went 7-for-12 (.583), including two doubles and her first home run of the season. Underwood now leads the team in doubles (8) and runs batted in (14).

CMU will resume play against No. 23 Michigan at 4 p.m. Tuesday from Margo Jonker Stadium.
