After serving 11 years under legendary head coach Tom Borrelli, Ben Bennett has been promoted to take over the head coaching position for Central Michigan wrestling.

CMU Athletics announced the hiring on Tuesday, via a press release and social media post.

This is the first new head coach since Borrelli was hired in 1991.

Bennett has been with the Chippewas as both a coach and a wrestler. He wrestled for CMU from 2010 to 2013.

He joined the leadership staff for the Chippewas in 2013-14 and took on the associate head coach role in the 2022-23 season.

Before going into coaching, Bennett found success on the mat. He is the only wrestler in CMU history to be named All-American four times. He finished with a record of 121-24 overall and placed top 10 in the nation all four years in his respective weight classes.

After his career as a wrestler, he was named in 2023 to the Marcy Wetson CMU Athletics Hall of Fame.

In Borrelli’s final year, the Chippewas won the 2024 Mid-American Conference Championship title, sent three wrestlers to the NCAA tournament and finished 6-1 in conference dual meets.

CMU Athletics is hosting a "Welcome to Campus" event to introduce Bennett as the new head coach at the Chippewa Champions Center Atrium on Thursday at 3 p.m. The event is open to the public.
