Wrestling sits in fourth place after day one of MAC Tournament

While attempting to win its first MAC title since 2012, the Central Michigan wrestling team competed in the first half of the Mid-American Conference Tournament Saturday. 

Only one CMU wrestler advanced the compete in the finals of their weight class one day one of the competition.

Junior Colin Heffernan advanced to the finals in the 157-pound weight class after defeating Eastern Michigan's Zach Carson. The Cleveland native, will face Missouri junior Joey Lavallee in the finals.

CMU ended the first day in fourth place with 72 points. Missouri leads with 117 points. 

Senior Corey Keener (133), freshman Mason Smith (141), Justin Oliver (149), freshman Logan Parks (165), C.J. Brucki, Junior Jordan Ellingwood (184), senior Austin Severn (197) and junior Newton Smerchek (HWT) are all in the consolation semi-final round. They will compete for a third-place finish tomorrow at noon. Junior Brent Fleetwood will wrestle for the seventh-place spot tomorrow at 125. 

The tournament will resume at noon tomorrow, beginning with the consolation semi-finals and followed by the championship finals.
