The Mid-American Conference released its 2017 football schedule Wednesday.

Central Michigan will open its season against Rhode Island on Thursday, Aug. 31, followed by two road games against Power 5 schools Kansas on Sep. 9, and Syracuse on Sep. 16.

The Chippewas' first MAC game will be Sep. 23 against Miami (Ohio) at Kelly/Shorts Stadium, followed by a matchup at Boston College Sep. 30.

CMU will face rival Western Michigan on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at Waldo Stadium in Kalamazoo. That contest will be televised on EPSN2. The Broncos topped the Chippewas 49-3 last season and have won the last three contests.

The Chippewas will also play Eastern Michigan on a Wednesday. The Eagles will come to Mount Pleasant Nov. 8. CMU will end the regular season against Northern Illinois Friday, Nov. 24.

The Chippewas finished last season 6-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play. CMU will have to replace senior quarterback Cooper Rush and find a new offensive coordinator, quarterbacks and running backs coach.
