Alternative Winter Break sign-ups will take place at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26 on the Mary Ellen Brandell Volunteer Center’s OrgSync portal.

The Alternative Breaks program at Central Michigan University allows students to travel to another location in the United States during winter, spring and summer breaks to volunteer. During sign-ups, students choose their break based on the social issue they care about. The location is not revealed until after sign-ups.

There are various issues to choose from, including natural disaster restoration, youth development and animal rescue.

Alternative Winter Breaks will leave Saturday, Dec. 16 and return Saturday, Dec. 23. Alternative Break participants also attend weekly meetings leading up to the break.

There is a limit of 10 participants on each break, along with two site leaders.

October Alternative Weekend Break sign-ups will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 27 on OrgSync. Alternative Weekend Breaks participants travel to another location in Michigan to volunteer. After sign-ups, participants learn more about the organization they will be working with and where in Michigan they'll be going.
