Joe Ostman earns MAC West Defensive Player of the Week honors

Central Michigan football’s senior defensive end Joe Ostman has been named Mid-American Conference West Defensive Player of the Week.

The Mackinaw City native led CMU’s eight sack performance against Ball State on Saturday by getting to the quarterback four times. 

He added five tackles and a forced fumble against the Cardinals. Ostman currently leads all Football Subdivision teams with 10 sacks this season.

The 6-foot-3, 259-pounder now has 24 sacks in his Chippewa career, the third-highest total in program history. This is the second time Ostman has earned the weekly award in his career.

CMU's defense held Ball State to 208 total yards and only 81 rushing yards. The Chippewas return to action at Western Michigan on Nov. 1 with kickoff set for 8 p.m.
