Ostman earns MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week award

Senior defensive end Joe Ostman logged seven tackles, two tackles for a loss, and one sack in Central Michigan football’s 31-24 win over Northern Illinois in the final regular season game. 

On Wednesday, Ostman was named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week. 

The 6-foot-3, 259-pound captain owns a 3.68 grade point average. Ostman is a general management major. 

CMU’s win over the Huskies marked its fifth victory in a row. The Chippewas finished 8-4 on the season and 6-2 in MAC play. 

On the season, Ostman has 12 sacks and is tied for the lead among all NCAA Division I players with 1.2 sacks per game. 

Mikayla Voigt of Northern Illinois earned the MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors, averaging 17 points, 5.7 assists, three steals, and 35 minutes per game over three games.
