Softball junior earns MAC West Division Player of the Week honors

Central Michigan softball first baseman Erika Underwood earned Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week honors.

The Pittsford native batted 8-of-14 (.571) with a .929 slugging percentage on top of her team-high fourth home run and a pair of doubles to lead the Chippewas at the Liberty Softball Challenge in Virginia. CMU finished with a 3-1 record at the tournament.

Last season, Underwood started 48 of the 50 games she played in. She led the team with 13 doubles, which ranks ninth in program history. She also co-led CMU in home runs (five) and RBIs (26).

Underwood currently holds team-highs in RBIs (11) and total bases (25). She has the second highest batting average (.440).

The Chippewas will be off for the weekend and won’t resume play until at 11 a.m. on March 2.  They will begin the South Florida Under Armour Invitational with a double-header against Penn and Wisconsin in Clearwater.
