A midweek road trip failed to fall in the Central Michigan baseball team's favor, as Notre Dame rained on its parade during a 5-3 defeat for CMU Tuesday in South Bend, IN.

Originally, the teams were slated to play on March 17, but weather forced the game to be rescheduled. The resulting makeup game was overall quiet for CMU, and its often explosive offense struggled to find a rhythm, logging only four hits against six Notre Dame pitchers.

Right fielder Harrison Bowman led the charge for Central Michigan, logging two runs on two hits for the day.

The Chippewas held onto an early 2-1 lead for nearly four innings, but too many issues added up to push the Fighting Irish ahead for the remainder of the game.

Two pitchers took the mound for the afternoon for CMU, a departure for a squad that’s no stranger to cycling through their available arms. However, they stood their ground against this Power Four program.

Starter Jack Griffiths climbed to four strikeouts on the day, while allowing seven hits and two walks. In relief, Jake Brown threw one strikeout, along with one hit and one walk.

Notre Dame sealed the game with two runs scored in both the fifth and sixth innings. A Spencer Verburg single in the seventh gave the Chippewas some hope, but they were silenced the rest of the afternoon.

CMU hit a four-game slide, with one last stretch of home games remaining this year. A non-conference faceoff against Grace Christian took place at Theunissen Stadium Wednesday, and now a crucial Mid-American Conference series against Northern Illinois starting May 1 awaits.
