Central Michigan womens basketball head coach Sue Guevara celebrates after winning the MAC Championship game on March 10 at Quicken Loans Arena.

Before the 2017-18 season began, the Central Michigan women’s basketball team was selected to win the Mid-American Conference Tournament.

On March 10, the hopes and dreams of raising a banner became a reality for the Chippewas, who took down Buffalo in the MAC Tournament title game, 96-91, at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

“Back in November, when we were picked, the expectations were so high,” Guevara said. “I guess everyone kept talking about stress and pressure, but we didn’t talk about that. This is the first team I’ve ever been a part of to buy that Kool-Aid and continue drinking it.”

Junior guard Presley Hudson scored 26 points, adding five rebounds and four assists. On the defensive side, Hudson held Buffalo star Stephanie Reid to 15 points on 6-of-14 shooting.

"It tastes very sweet," Hudson said. "This has been our goal since we got here. To be able to accomplish it is amazing."

Reflecting on the season, Guevara said she is in love.

"It's been hard," Guevara said. "I love them and they know it. For what this team accomplished today, I can't say enough about them.

"I love this team."
