Sophomore running back Jonathan Ward talks to the media on Nov. 3 in the Indoor Athletic Center.

With Mid-American Conference Media Day just around the corner, it means Central Michigan football's time on the gridiron is near.

The Chippewas will be represented at MAC Media Day by coach John Bonamego, senior linebacker Malik Fountain and junior running back Jonathan Ward.

Even though registration opens at 9:30 a.m. on July 24, Media Day actually begins at 11 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. at Ford Field in Detroit.

In the 2017 season, Fountain posted 89 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss and two passes defended.

As a running back, Ward played in 13 games. He carried the ball 178 times for 1,024 yards and 10 touchdowns. The 6-foot, 185-pound tailback also caught 48 passes for 470 yards and three touchdowns.

In just his freshman and sophomore year for CMU, Ward has accumulated 1,750 yards from scrimmage. Fountain, in three seasons, has made 246 tackles.

For the 2017 MAC Media Day, CMU was represented by defensive end Joe Ostman and tight end Tyler Conklin, who both signed with NFL teams.
