La Señorita's Mount Pleasant location closes

La Señorita Mexican Restaurants

After 33 years in business, the La Señorita Mexican Restaurants location in Mount Pleasant has closed.

A representative from the corporate office said the decision to shut down was a "tough, internal" one. They were notified of the closing yesterday.

“Thank you, Mt. Pleasant,” a sign on the door read. “It has been our pleasure to serve you! This location has closed.”

La Señorita Mexican Restaurants President Jeff Leslie said they were approaching the end of the lease and couldn't negotiate a favorable price. La Señorita did not own the building on South Mission Street. On top of that, there was an unexpected leadership change that "shortened the timeline."

Employees at the restaurant were not warned about the closing and lease negotiations. Some employees were told they no longer had a job when they showed up to work for the day.

"Our hand was forced," he said. "We did not have confidence that we would be able to operate this restaurant after (Dec. 25)."
