Community members can see the stars and learn about space this fall in the Brooks Astronomical Observatory.

The Central Michigan University physics department is hosting three open houses in the observatory. Tours take place at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, Monday, Oct. 7 and Tuesday, Nov. 5 in Brooks Hall. The events will happen regardless of rainy or cloudy weather.

Since 1976, the department has hosted monthly public viewing nights on the roof of Brooks.

The observatory features a 16-inch Newtonian/Cassegrain telescope inside a retractable dome. There is also a rooftop observation deck to look at the stars with smaller telescopes.
