Central Michigan defensive end Sean Adesanya celebrates after recording his second sack against Akron Sept. 14 at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.

Sean Adesanya has been named Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

The Rahway, New Jersey senior led the Chippewas with two sacks and two tackles for loss in the 17-12 loss to the Miami Hurricanes at Hard Rock Stadium last Saturday.

A transfer from Illinois, this marks the first time Adesanya has been so honored since his arrival in Mount Pleasant last season.

He also had two tackles for loss and forced a fumble to lead a strong defensive performance from CMU, which allowed just 17 points and 51 yards rushing.

In total, the Chippewas sacked Miami quarterback Jarren Williams four times and forced nine tackles for loss.

CMU sits at 2-2 on the season with a 1-0 record in MAC play after defeating Akron at home on Sept. 14. The Chippewas hit the road again at noon on Saturday to take on arch rival Western Michigan at Waldo Stadium in Kalamazoo.
