The 91st matchup between Central Michigan and Western Michigan will kick off at noon on Sept. 28 in Waldo Stadium in Kalamazoo, the Mid-American Conference announced Monday.

Both teams own 2-1 records on the season and face foes from the Atlantic Coast Conference on the road this week as the Chippewas face Miami (Florida) and the Broncos play at Syracuse.

WMU currently owns the series, 49-39-2.

In 2017, the Chippewas broke a 3-game Bronco winning streak that spanned from 2014-16. The game two seasons ago was one to remember for CMU as Shane Morris hit Corey Willis for a 77-yard touchdown pass to cap off a run of 21 unanswered points and steal the 35-28 road victory on a rainy night.

The next season, however, was a different story - outside of the bad weather. WMU took control of the game early and dominated the depleted Chippewas, 35-10 in Kelly/Shorts Stadium and bring the Victory Cannon back to Kalamazoo, where it currently resides.

The Victory Cannon was first awarded in 2008 to CMU. Since then, the Broncos have brought (or kept) the Cannon in Kalamazoo 6 times out of the 11 games played for it.

CBS Sports Network will have television coverage of the game.
