A threatening social media post made by a Mount Pleasant High School student has been deemed a prank, city police said.

The student allegedly posted about possibly bringing a gun to school, according to a news release issued by Mount Pleasant Police Department.

Police were informed of the post on Oct. 29 and made contact with the student, who admitted to the post. The student told police it was meant to be a prank, the release said.

No additional threats have been posted to social media since the original post, police said. There is no safety risk to students, staff or the public.

Mount Pleasant High School issued the following statement to parents through its Facebook page:

“Mt. Pleasant High School Administrators continue to work directly with the City of Mt. Pleasant Police Department to investigate the alleged threat of violence against MPHS on social media. Please remember, any threat of this nature is taken very seriously. We will continue to investigate every lead. Please encourage your children to report any situation that is concerning them to our administrators.”
