Kevin McKay earns weekly conference honor
Kevin McKay was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week in men's basketball, the conference announced Monday.
McKay, a senior guard from Warren, averaged 19.5 points and 7.5 rebounds as Central Michigan split its games at DePaul and home against Youngstown State.
In the 88-75 loss against the Blue Demons, McKay had 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting with four rebounds and two steals as the Chippewas built up an 18-point at halftime before falling.
In the matchup against the Penguins, McKay notched his 14th career double-double with a game-high 24 points and 11 rebounds. He shot 64% from the field and made his only 3-point attempt.
McKay is tied for the CMU team-lead in scoring, averaging 15.6 points per game, and ranks second in the MAC in field goal percentage at 60.6%. He recently reached the top 10 in career steals at CMU. McKay is also 31 points away from reaching 1,000 in his career.
Central Michigan is 6-2 and undefeated at home, winning each game by double digits. Next, the Chippewas face Tennessee-Martin at 7 p.m. Friday in McGuirk Arena.
