CRIME LOG: City police make multiple drug-related arrests

The following incidents were among those handled by the Central Michigan University Police Department and Mount Pleasant Police Department from Jan. 14-26.

Jan. 14

Residents of an apartment complex on Portabella Dr. called city police to complain about a man screaming outside someone's door. Police arrived at 5 a.m. and confronted a 24-year-old Mount Pleasant man. The man had a restraining order against him by a resident of the apartment. He was arrested for violating the personal protection order and disorderly conduct.

Jan. 15

Mount Pleasant police helped CMUPD identify the suspect vehicle that was used in the aggravated assault incident that took place outside the Bovee University Center around 1:15 a.m.

Jan. 17

Mount Pleasant Police began an open investigation into a juvenile assault complaint.

MMPD assisted an officer positioned at the Mount Pleasant Middle School in an open investigation involving juveniles. The children involved will be interviewed before the case goes through the county prosecutor.

Jan. 20 

City police pulled over a 41-year-old Mount Pleasant man and his passenger near the intersection of Henry and Burch streets and discovered they had no insurance or license. After placing them in custody, officers searched the vehicle and found heroin and a needle underneath the driver’s seat. The man was charged with a violation of the controlled substance act.

Mount Pleasant police assisted Gratiot County in the warranted arrest of a 30-year-old man from Alma.

Jan. 21 

City police were called to Meijer at 12:41 p.m. when loss prevention saw a pair of frequent shoplifters. A 27-year-old Remus man and a 23-year-old Mount Pleasant woman were caught trying to steal food items. After the couple was taken into custody, methamphetamine was discovered on the man. Both were charged with retail fraud and the man was also charged with violation of the controlled substance act.

A minor was arrested for possession of marijuana at 1:16 p.m. The case was forwarded to the prosecutor's office and dealt with by the juvenile probation court.

A possible assault occurred at Medilodge of Mount Pleasant, a retirement home. A staff member was seen violently pushing a patient out of a doorway. A report was filed at 12:45 p.m. and will be forwarded to the prosecutor's office.

Jan. 24

City police responded to three different complaints about a 33-year-old man flipping over picnic tables and tearing down holiday lights in downtown Mount Pleasant just outside Rubbles Bar. On the third complaint, at 3:45 a.m., officers confronted the man, who began to flee. After a short foot pursuit, the man was caught behind a dumpster and arrested for damaging property.

Jan. 26

A city police officer ran the plates of a vehicle belonging to a 37-year-old Mount Pleasant man. The officer discovered the man had warrants out for his arrest. The passenger, a 41-year-old Mount Pleasant woman, also had warrants out for her arrest and both were put into custody. When searched, the woman had needles containing fentanyl and methamphetamine. She was charged with a violation of the controlled substance act.
