Biddy's Love Monkey make big return to town
This weekend brings the local live music fan a few different avenues of possibility when exploring their potential nightlife entertainment itinerary.
Friday night at Rubbles is the aggressive hardcore sound of Biddy's Love Monkey. This hard music fave was a powerful presence on the local scene for a couple years before setting its sights on bigger prospects and moving to the Detroit music scene earlier this year. The band is returning to give their native fans a dose of what it does best: hard, heavy, screamy, ugly hardcore that many local connoisseurs consider quite beautiful. The Detroit hardcore band Apathamy will be opening the show.
The crowd pleasing blues rock of Crosstown Mojo will fill the air Saturday night at Rubbles. This hard working band has been gaining many new fans with each show. Check out what all the hype is about and enjoy the band's palatable mix of original and cover material.
Saturday night at the Ward Theater, 218 S. Main, is a special Ward Project event to benefit reconstruction of the historic Ward Theater. The concert will feature the Internationally known Bulletproof recording artists One-21, from Philadelphia. The show opens with the band Crock Pot Oatmeal from Lansing. These bands specialize in punk music and are guaranteed to please. See the accompanying article in this section for more details.
The Bird Bar & Grille, will also host a bit more of a mellow style of sounds this weekend. Friday night the local smooth jazz specialists known as Eminon will play. The band features musicians from the CMU School of Music. Saturday night the rock of performer Myk Rise will be featured as he performs many well-known hit standards.
Rubbles is located at 112 W. Michigan. These 18 and over shows begin at 10:30 p.m. The Bird is located at 223 S. Main. These 18 and over shows begin at 9 p.m. Both venues require a small cover charge for admission.
