SGA unhappy with A-Senate

Some Student Government Association members say the Academic Senate did not regard student opinion during its last meeting.

The A-Senate did not consider a Student Government Association resolution addressing Calendar Committee recommendations to increase time between classes, expand the final-exam schedule, address the parking problem and synchronize clocks across campus.

SGA passed the resolution so the Academic Senate would know the students’ stance on the recommendations, said Academic Affairs Committee Chair Nicole Wright, Clinton Twp. junior.

“By not even considering the resolution, members of the Academic Senate are ignoring the voice of the students,” she said.

SGA passed the resolution Oct. 10. A-Senate members received a copy of the resolution, which was not even mentioned at its meeting.

In the resolution, SGA supported all of the recommendations except the one to expand the final-exam schedule to five full days.

When A-senate voted on the recommendations, it elected to extend the exam schedule and did not approve the recommendation to change class times.
